Our health is the most important aspect or our existence.  We need to stay healthy to get the best of the lives that we have.  But there are factors which sway us from our desire for good health and longevity.  These are the bad habits that can put our health at risk.

1. Excessive Alcohol Intake

Excessive alcohol intake can put your liver under extreme stress.  It can also contribute to some serious health problems like alcoholism, hypertension, cancer, heart diseases and stroke.   

2. Sedentary Lifestyle

Engaging in regular exercise or physical activity is an important aspect of health and energy.  You need to have an active lifestyle in order to maintain good circulation, muscle mass, endurance, physical and mental alertness and a sense of well-being.  Going to the gym three times a week for 30 minutes is not enough reason for you to stop doing your regular physical exercises.  A sedentary lifestyle is the primary cause of lack of energy and weak bones.  It can also lead to obesity, diabetes, accumulation of bad cholesterol, hypertension and heart diseases.

3. Failure to Identify the Difference Between "low fat" and "low calorie"

There are some products which use "low fat" to entice buyers who are not able to distinguish the difference between "low fat" and "low calorie."  You should read the product label before buying "low fat products."  This will help to let you know the exact fat content of that product.

"Low fat" doesn't really mean low calorie.  It sometimes indicates a reduction in the fat content of the product, and the reduced version can still be over the standard low fat requirement of 3 grams per serving.

3. Social Smoking

Smoking is hazardous to your health, period.  It doesn't matter if you are smoking for social reasons or as a habit; its effects are the same.  It contains an addictive substance called nicotine which can raise your heart rate, elevate your blood sugar and narrow your blood vessels.  You should avoid any form of smoking before it becomes a habit that is difficult to drop.

4. Consuming Too Much Caffeine

Consuming caffeine in excessive quantities is not good for your health.  Caffeine is a stimulant that keeps your adrenal glands working when it needs to rest.  This can cause nervousness, abnormal palpitation, and it can disrupt your sleeping pattern.  This can also lead to hyperacidity, stomach upset and headaches.

5. Unsafe Sex

One of the most common bad health habits is the practice of unsafe sex.  With today's technology and information campaign, a majority of people are already aware of the health risks of unprotected sex.  Despite this, the occurrence of sexually transmitted diseases is rising.  People just don't care to protect themselves while they are enjoying the heat of the moment. 

These are the top five unhealthy habits that can put your health at risk.  We should avoid practicing them in order to live long and happy lives.
