Motivation begets energy. It is a psychological factor that pushes a person to act or do something to accomplish a certain goal. It is one of the most important aspects that can bring a person to achieve what he wants.
It creates discipline and it helps a person to make a vision of how things would look like after he accomplishes his task.
But getting there is not easy as there are plenty of factors which can hinder you from realizing your dream. These are the things that can bring you off track and derail you from the right path. These are the killers of motivation.
Perfectionism is a belief or disposition that makes you think that anything less than perfect is unacceptable. This is a negative attitude that gets you stuck in idealism. It makes us stop when things are not perfect.
2. Comparing yourself to others
Motivation is a personal thing. It is a commitment to accomplish something just by being yourself.
If you compare yourself with others, of if you're trying to be someone else, you will not be able to draw the motivation you need. It can make you think that the other person is too smart or you are too dull to do what the other person does.
You can motivate yourself by idolizing others but you should never compare yourself to them; this can make you look at yourself as "not good enough," especially when challenges come along.
3. Thinking that you’re not ‘good enough’
This is a thing that you often hear at home, especially when your parents are not satisfied with what you do.
Don't believe it when people say you're not good enough. It will only dash your hopes and kill your desire to do better.
You should know yourself and identify your strengths. Use them to push you towards your goals. If you think you can do it, you are good enough.
4. Doing too much at once
Every journey starts with a single step. You should do things in their proper order and focus on each of them to avoid costly mistakes. Keep your direction in mind and don't lose sight of your goal. Take one step at a time.
If you are in a hurry to the point that you juggle too many tasks at the same time, you may not be able to accomplish anything. You may just end up frustrated and drained of energy.
5. Making excuses
You cannot make things better with excuses. It is an attempt to justify yourself and put the blame on a fault or offense when things go wrong. It can make you feel that you are not in control, and it can diminish your motivation.
You should take responsibility for your actions. You should take control of your plans and execute them with the awareness that they're real – and they can go wrong when you least expect it. Making excuses is not the way to make them right. It's your decision to acknowledge a fault which can help to identify problems and find solutions.
