Keeping our body in good health is our own commitment to ourselves. Life is a gift and we have to take care of it partly by keeping ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually healthy.
Major illnesses have come with the fast paced way of life, stress and the influx of processed foods in the market.
It’s now time to re-commit ourselves to life. It’s time to do ourselves a favor by giving it the optimum health and well-being that it deserves.
Here are the six foundations of health that can take us to our goal:
1. Start your day with a positive outlook
Positive outlook is related to happiness and well-being. It is a common belief that your first thoughts as you wake up will determine your frame of mind for the rest of the day. Your mood or outlook can play a major role in the decisions you make. Most importantly, it is difficult to get along well with others if you allow yourself to be overwhelmed by bad mood.
2. Breathe like a baby
Deep, slow and relaxed breathing is an indication of calmness. This will translate into better supply of oxygen in the blood which circulates in your entire body. This will keep your cells healthy cells and energized.
Being overwhelmed by the hectic nature of our present lifestyles affects our heartbeat and breathing patterns. Fast, shallow breathing patterns associated by increased heartbeat are indications of stress. This in turn translates into a “fight or flight” breathing pattern which results in insufficient supply of oxygen rich blood to the brain and the other parts of the body.
3. Get enough sleep
One of the ways to maintain good health is to get a good amount of sleep each night.
Your body is designed to rest. This is to ensure that the energy you spent while you were awake is replenished during sleep. Sleep is also found to relieve depression, help you lose weight and suppress your cravings for unhealthy foods.
4. Eat natural foods
By default, we are all born to adapt to nature, and only nature can give what’s best for us.
Eating a balanced diet of natural foods is one of the best ways to prevent diseases. It is important to note, however, that there are plenty of fruits, vegetables and other products which are grown by artificial means. Choose the food you eat carefully. Buy locally produced foods which you know are not tainted with chemicals and pesticides.
5. Drink plenty of water
Water is life. You need to hydrate yourself to be physically and mentally alert. You need water to maintain your body temperature, your body uses it for proper digestion, it is important to make your brain function very well and you also need it to flush out the harmful impurities inside your body.
Exercise is a vital part of your health as it helps to make you strong and improve your stamina, endurance and overall well being.
Another benefit of exercising is its ability to relieve stress. Several studies show that exercise is an effective way to alleviate depression.
These are the six foundations of health that can help bring you back to a natural and healthy way of life.
