Like juicing, eating smoothies is one of the best ways to enjoy the health benefits of fruits and vegetables. Their liquefied state enables your body to digest them without expending the energy required to digest them when you eat them as whole fruits or vegetables.

Here are three smoothie recipes that can help to keep you energized and nourished:

1. Papaya and Kiwi Smoothie

Papaya is a highly nutritious fruit that is loaded with fiber, vitamins A and C, folate, potassium and calcium. It helps to cleanse your gastrointestinal tract and it helps in flushing out harmful toxins out from your body. It also contains papain, an enzyme that your body uses to digest proteins.

Here’s what you will need to make papaya and kiwi smoothie:

1 cup papaya 1 cup vanilla soy milk or almond milk 1 peeled kiwi fruit Dash of cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon honey 2-4 ice cubes

Directions:

Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend them in slow speed. Increase the speed gradually until it becomes smooth. Blend the ingredients for another 30 seconds on high.

2. Spirulina Energy Smoothie

Nutritionists consider spirulina as a superfood because it is loaded with essential vitamins and antioxidants that work to keep us healthy and protected from diseases. The one drawback of spirulina though is its not so great taste.

This is where smoothies come in to make spirulina taste better. Turning fruits and vegetables into smoothies is a great way to make them tasty, refreshing and enjoyable.

What you will need:

1 tbsp Spirulina powder 1/2 cup mixed berries (frozen) 1 cup plain low-fat yogurt 1/4 cup orange juices 2 spoons honey (optional)

Directions:

Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend for one minute or until it becomes green and smooth. If you want it to taste a bit sweeter, add two spoons of honey before blending.

3. Wheatgrass Smoothie

Wheatgrass is another superfood that contains plenty of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It is especially rich in vitamins A, E and B vitamins to keep well nourished and full of energy and life.

What You Need

1/2 cup of wheatgrass 1 medium orange, peeled and halved 4 strawberries, fresh or frozen 1/2 cup water 1 medium apple, quartered 1 cup ice cubes

Directions

Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend for one minute.
