Fatigue is a when you feel that you are devoid of energy and what is left in you is tiredness and extreme exhaustion.

Feeling drained of energy after engaging in extreme physical or mental activities is a normal, yet temporary condition.  It is actually an indication that you need to rest and replenish the power that your body had expended during the energy-draining exercise.

It wouldn’t be much of a wonder if your tired feeling goes away after sufficient rest and sleep. But if you are feeling worn out with aches in your body and you tend to lose your concentration even after a well-rested night, it is a sign that you need to pay a visit to you doctor.

But if you are tired for a reason, you need not be too concerned as this is a normal consequence if you subject yourself to extremely tiring situations.  These are some of the things you can do to eliminate persistent fatigue:

1. Take a close look at your lifestyle

Living an unhealthy lifestyle is certainly a fatigue factor.  Sleep deprivation, dieting, poor nutrition, unhealthy eating habits and taking too much caffeine and alcohol can all contribute to energy drain.  Your lifestyle should be the first thing to check if you feel fatigue setting in.  You can ask your nutritionist or health adviser for help in order to get the best results.

2. Avoid burning out, take some break

Too much time spent on the job can burn you out.  In order to avoid getting stressed due to overwork, you can take breaks between your working hours to do some breathing exercises and fill your body with oxygen.  Take at least a day off each week to unwind.  Spend time in the company of friends or family.  Remember the saying that too much work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy.

3. Keep your emotions under check

Oftentimes, the cause of fatigue is not work but your emotions that go unchecked.  Worry, frustration and resentment are the top three emotions that sap energy.  Take things easy on yourself.  Avoid feeling resentful, especially if the cause is not personal, start each day fresh without the hangups of the past.  Avoid negative people.  They rob you of energy by playing with your emotions.

4. Relax

Avoid mental fatigue by doing exercises that relax your mind and body.  Loss of attention or focus is a sign of mental fatigue, and mental fatigue can also affect you physically.  Doing breathing exercises to release stress and anxiety can do well enough to help you stay alert and free from mental exhaustion.

5. Take herbal and vitamin supplements

Sometimes, the foods we eat are not enough to give us the energy and nourishment that our body needs.  We need to take supplements to augment the nutrition provided to us by the natural foods we consume, like vitamins B5 and B12, and herbs that include ginseng, gotu kola and olive leaf extract.
