Embarrassment is an energy sapper and dealing with the fear of embarrassment is no different.
This would be your dilemma if you have foot odor. It is a common problem and many people suffer from it, but it is still embarrassing most especially if it is exposed in public.
Foot odor happens when your foot is covered for a long time, allowing bacteria to develop. These organisms secrete isovaleric acid. This is the chemical which is the real culprit why your foot stinks.
But there are other causes of foot odor, and these include hormonal problems, extreme stress and medication.
The best way to prevent foot odor is to keep your shoes and socks clean all the time. But there are a few simple home solutions that you can do to eliminate the problem.
1. Soak your feet in water laced with baking soda.
Put two quarts of water in a basin and add two tablespoons of baking soda. Soak your feet in the water for 30 minutes. This helps to remove bacteria that cause the bad smell.
2. Keep your shoes and socks clean.
You can actually avoid foot odor by keeping your socks and shoes clean. Wash your socks and rubber shoes regularly and keep leather shoes in the sun for sometime. Sprinkle some baking soda inside your shoes regularly to prevent the growth of odor-causing bacteria.
3. Do a tea soak.
Get a small basin and put some water and tea bags into it and soak your feet in the water for 30 minutes.
4. Soak your feet in hot water mixed with apple cider vinegar.
Mix hot water and some apple cider vinegar in a tub or small basin and soak your feet in it for some time. If you have socks that need washing, you can also dip it into the basin for a while to effectively remove the odor in it.
5. Use antibacterial soap.
You can eliminate foot odor by regularly washing your feet with warm water and antibacterial soap. This will kill the bacteria that create the odor.
6. Soak your feet in rice water.
One effective yet less known way of stopping foot odor is by soaking your feet in water taken from cooking rice.
When you cook rice, put some extra water into it and when it boils, pour the extra water out to a separate basin, let it cool then soak your feet in it. This will remove your foot odor in an instant.
7. Use antiperspirants on your feet.
Using antiperspirants on your feet can help to minimize sweating and reduce their smell.
Foot odor is really embarrassing but it is easy to treat. You can apply any of these techniques and you can be confident again.
