1. Start with the words I AM.

You need to use these words because they tell your subconscious mind who you are and who you want to be. They are two of the most powerful words in the English language.

2. Think positive.

Our minds develop pictures of what we are thinking about. It would be difficult to “not think” about something without actually seeing a picture of that something in our minds. Therefore, trying not to think about cigarettes will undoubtedly bring up a picture of a cigarette in your mind. If you want to stay positive, think about the positive, and not the negative things associated with it. As an example, if you want to quit smoking, tell yourself “I want to breath clean air” instead of saying “No to cigarettes” which makes you remember cigarettes even more.

3. Claim what you want by saying it in the present tense.

Claiming what you want by stating it in the present tense sends an imbalance that your subconscious self wants to correct. So if you want to become the head of your department, tell yourself “I am the department head” instead of “I will be the department head.”

4. Be specific.

Your subconscious mind needs specific instructions to make it work for you. When you say “I am rich,” you are not making a specific self affirmation, but when you say “I am earning $10,000 or more a month,” that would be specific enough to create a goal that you subconsciously desire.

5. Use the active form of verb in your self affirmation.

The active voice tells your subconscious that you are the source and not the receiver of the action.

6. Add a feeling to your self affirmation.

By adding feelings such as joyful, excited, thankful, you are actually fuelling up your desire with emotion. This will help you to portray the attitude of a winner. It helps you to develop positive attitude.

7. Keep it brief.

Your self affirmations need to be short to make them easy to remember and repeat often. You can also in the form of a rhyme so that you will enjoy saying it to yourself.
