Aromatherapy is one of the oldest methods of healing in the world.  It has been practiced for hundreds of centuries.  It is still widely practiced today for its many health benefits.

Essential oils are the main components of aromatherapy.  These are extracted from common plants.  This is the main reason why they carry lesser side effects.  They are also affordable and easy to use.

Here are six common ailments you can heal with aromatherapy:

1. Headache

Headaches are common energy sappers that everyone has gone through at some point.  Aromatherapy has a way to suppress it with peppermint oil.  Wipe a small amount of peppermint oil on your temples, forehead and behind your ears to relieve stress which could have caused your headache.

2. Pre Menstrual Syndrome

Pre Menstrual Syndrome is quite difficult to handle because it affects women physically and emotionally.  To find relief from PMS, rub a blend of lavender and bergamot oils on your lower abdomen.  It will help to reduce the cramping and stress that’s giving you a lot of discomfort.

3. Colds and Flu

If you are suffering from colds and flu, there’s no doubt that you are also experiencing its adverse effects, such as congestion, upset stomach and body pains.  You can alleviate these symptoms by taking a hot bath laced with eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil and lavender. You don’t have to add too many drops into the bath tub. A maximum of eight drops altogether would be alright.

This combination will give you relief from congestion.  It also allows you to sleep because of the relaxing effect of lavender.

4. Athlete’s Foot

You can eliminate athlete’s foot by massaging your infected foot with a blend of tea tree oil or lavender oil and olive oil each night before bedtime.

Tea tree oil is a potent anti-fungal. Lavender oil has skin-healing properties and olive oil is a moisturizer that helps to soften dry, cracked skin.

5. Stress

Stress is a part of everyday life.  We have to find ways to alleviate it in order to avoid getting depressed in the long run.

Essential oils are long known for their ability to uplift spirits and relieve stress.  You can deal with stress by putting a few drops of lavender oil and orange or lemon oil into your handkerchief.  Whenever you feel the need to relax, pull out your handkerchief and breathe deeply into it.

Carrying a small bottle of mixed essential oils and sniffing it when necessary is also a good measure to combat stress.

6. Acne & Oily Skin

Aromatherapy is also a great way to treat acne and oily skin.  You can do this with the help of lavender oil, which is a potent anti-bacterial and skin healer, and lemon oil which is a good cleansing agent for oily skin.

Put water in a spritzer bottle and add some lemon oil and lavender oil into it.  Use this to moisten your face every morning and evening to keep your face acne free.
