Exercise is not only meant to make you physically and mentally fit; it is also intended to be enjoyable as you do it.
So before you decide to engage in a type of regular physical activity, be sure that it fits into your lifestyle, habits and tastes. Anything done with delight makes you happy as you do it; it helps to make life easier and more pleasant.
Here are five ways that can help to make exercise more enjoyable for you:
1. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are appropriate for your type of exercise.
Using comfortable and appropriate clothes and footwear is essential in every type of exercise. When you perform your physical activity, you should not feel too hot or too cold for the activity. Your shoes should not make you uncomfortable for your movements either. Using the right kind of fitness gear is part of every exercise or sports regimen. You should observe it because it can help to make you feel your best as exerciser.
If you are exercising on hot days, you should wear loose, light fitting clothing to stay ventilated. During cold days, wearing layers of clothing, a hat and a pair of gloves would be appropriate for your protection.
Wear shoes that are specifically designed for your type of sport or exercise. You should also wear protective gear such as knee pads, wrist guards, or helmet if necessary.
2. Drink plenty of water
Drinking sufficient water is necessary especially if you are engaged in physical activities such as sports or exercise. When you exercise you need to drink a cup of water before, during and after each exercise session. It helps to regulate your body temperature while you’re working out. It also replenishes the fluids you lost during the workout to protect you from dehydration, headache and loss of concentration.
Even if you are not exercising, you should keep yourself well hydrated by drinking at least 8 cups of water a day.
3. Choose an exercise that you enjoy.
Exercise should be fun, exciting and something that you can look forward to each day. It should not be frustrating as it will defeat one of the primary purposes that it is intended for: to make you enjoy the experience.
An exercise that you enjoy will motivate you to do it more frequently. It can help to make you stick to it for a lifetime. It would not be quite good to engage in an exercise that you do not enjoy because it would require a lot of effort from your part and it would be quite exhausting.
4. Be flexible.
If you find yourself getting bored with your present exercise, try something for a change. For example, if you are walking, jogging, or cycling on the same route and you are getting bored of the sights, try to head for a different route.
You can also schedule different types of exercise for particular days, like cycling on Mondays, jogging on Wednesdays, or swimming on Fridays. This can make exercise worthwhile for you.
5. Have an exercise buddy.
Teaming up with an exercise buddy is a great way to shape up your body and establish a healthy social life. You will feel more motivated when you see your friend doing what you love to do.
6. Avoid competing with others.
You developed your exercise routine to improve your own performance and maintain your physical and mental well-being. Two of the main goals of exercise are longevity and endurance. You don’t actually need to compete with others when you perform it.
