Lemon essential oil is oil extracted from the rind of the fresh lemon fruit. This essential oil is known for its astringent, antibacterial, antiseptic and cleansing properties, and people use it for its ability to balance the sebum levels of the skin, to treat infections, to clear the skin for a clear, oil-free complexion.

But aside from being beneficial to the skin, lemon essential oil has plenty of other health benefits. Its fresh scent is a great air freshener which is also believed to uplift mood and alleviate stress and anxiety. Here are some of the other uses of lemon essential oil:

1. Add it to you water.

Lemon essential oil has alkalizing effects which can help to strengthen your immune system. Adding a drop of this essential oil to your water helps to improve its flavor and provide you with health benefits.

But as a word of caution, not all essential oil brands are safe for internal use. For your water, you need to use only the certified pure therapeutic grade essential oil because it's safe. However, you should avoid giving it to children below six years old.

2. Use it for cleaning.

Lemon is also used for cleaning because of its fresh clean scent and antibacterial properties. Many cleaning brands add lemon as one of their components.

Many housewives use lemon essential oil to clean their kitchen.

3. Add it to your sugar scrub.

One good way to care for your skin and to provide it with a safe cleansing benefit is to treat it with sugar body scrub fortified with lemon essential oil.

4. Use it to treat sore throat or cough.

The antiseptic and antibacterial properties of lemon essential oil help to kill organisms that trigger sore throat, cough and cold. A spoonful of honey laced with a drop of lemon can be a good remedy for these sicknesses. Again, you should remember not to use essential oils internally on children below six years old.

5. You can also diffuse lemon essential oil in a room as freshener and air cleanser. It also helps to uplift the mood of the room's occupants.

6. Lemon essential oil is an effective sticker remover. By dropping a few drops in the sticker area, you can easily remove stickers from glasses or any other surfaces.

Lavender essential oil is a colorless or green-yellow essential oil which is obtained from distilling fresh flowers of several species of the lavender plant. It has a sweet aroma and bitter taste.

Its fragrance makes it a good ingredient for perfumes, but it also contains plenty of medicinal properties that can relieve us from a number of health problems.

Here are some of the most common uses of lavender essential oil:

1. It is used to treat skin diseases and infections.

Practitioners of aromatherapy found lavender essential oil to be effective in treating skin allergies, acne, athlete's foot, ringworm and other fungal infections, dermatitis, eczema, scabies, sunburns, wounds and cuts.

2. It is used to promote circulation and relieve muscle and joint pains.

As massage oil, lavender essential oil helps to relieve muscle and joint pains, lumbago and welling. It also helps to reduce heart palpitations, lower high blood pressure, relax tight muscles, provide relief from rheumatism and promote circulation.

3. It is used to provide relief from respiratory problems and infections of the respiratory tract. These include bronchitis, coughs, colds, flu, whooping cough, and sinus infections. Lavender essential oil is also known to provide relief from throat infections and laryngitis.

4. It is used to soothe the digestive tract as well as it improves digestion and the intestinal function. It also helps to treat nausea and relieve gas pins.

5. Its calming and uplifting aroma makes it an effective reliever of anxiety and stress. Aromatherapy practitioners also use lavender essential oil to treat insomnia, epilepsy, depression, migraines, headaches, and vertigo.

These are some of the most popular uses of lavender essential oil.

You can use this essential oil straight from the bottle without the need to dilute it. You can also blend it with other essential oils for added benefits as long as you dilute it with carrier oil.

Always remember to read directions and precautions before using essential oils. This is to ensure your safety and to maximize their healing potentials.

For thousands of years, man has depended on essential oils as one of his healers. It is because these wonders of nature are equipped with the ability to provide relief to a lot of diseases, discomforts and pains.

Essential oils are either used as single oil or as a blend of two or more oils, depending on the ailment and the desired benefit of the user, and they are usually administered in three different methods.

The three ways of using essential oils are:

1. Aromatic

Essential oils are highly aromatic natural substances. They have a direct effect on the body's olfactory system and they influence our sense of smell to send sensory messages to the brain to either calm and soothe it or stimulate it into active mode.

Essential oils are one of the main components in aromatherapy applications. Many practitioners of aromatherapy diffuse certain essential oils in the room to relieve stress and induce calmness. The scent of these essential oils helps people to relax and be relieved from tensions.

But not all essential oils have the same effect, for there are certain oils whose aromas can be stimulating.

Aside from their effects on the brain, diffusing essential oils can also help to purify the air and rid it of foul odor and airborne pathogens.

2. Topical

Essential oils can be applied directly on the skin for localized treatment and they can be used as massage oil to obtain relief from muscle and joint pains.

Their chemical structure allows them to penetrate the skin and into the bloodstream to provide internal benefit to the entire body.

3. Internal

There are certain types of essential oils that can be taken internally to address certain health issues.

These are the oils that contain powerful antioxidants, and they are used as dietary supplements to support your health and to strengthen your body's resistance against inflammation and degeneration.

Although many aromatherapy practitioners are not in favor of the internal use of essential oils, there are actually lots of essential oils which are safe for dietary use.

But since some essential oils are toxic, you should not take any essential oil product internally without the supervision of an experienced aromatherapy practitioner.

You also need to read the dietary supplement facts of that product before deciding to take it.

As a word of caution, you should use only 100 percent pure therapeutic grade essential oils for best results and to avoid unwanted effects.

Always read and follow warning labels and instructions before using essential oils.

Pregnant women and people with medical conditions are advised to consult a medical professional before using essential oils.

Aromatherapy is an age-old way to provide relief to anxiety and certain discomforts. It is also used as a way to relax a person's body and mind and to boost his sense of well-being. They can be applied in a lot of ways, but their application varies depending on the person's needs and the area that needs to be attended to.

Essential oils are the major players in aromatherapy treatment. They are made from pure extracts of medicinal plants. They are all natural, but they are highly concentrated that they can be harmful if they are used without the supervision or guidance of an experienced practitioner.

Here are some of the most common ways to use essential oils.

1. Direct Application to the Skin

You can apply certain types of essential oils directly to your skin to treat rashes, fungal infections, or as massage oil. But you need to dilute them first with about 97 percent carrier oil before applying them to your skin to reduce their concentration.

Always perform an individual test of the essential oil and the carrier oil on your skin by doing a skin-patch test to ensure that they are safe to use. You also need to test the blended formula to see to it that it cannot cause any adverse reaction to your skin. Once you are sure that the formula is safe, you can already apply it to the affected areas of your skin.

Essential oils are most effective when they are applied through massage as it allows the oil to penetrate the skin and into the blood stream. This will enable you to experience the relaxing and therapeutic effects of essential oils.

Other ways to apply essential oils directly to the skin can be done by:

- Adding a few drops of your chosen essential oil to your lotion or cream;

- Adding a few drops of essential oil to hot water, dipping a face towel into it, squeezing out excess water from the towel and placing the towel on the affected area; and

- Adding a few drops of essential oil to a warm bath.

2. Inhalation

Aside from their ability to provide relief through direct application to the skin, you can also enjoy the therapeutic benefits of essential oils by adding a few drops to a diffuser and inhale their aroma.

Using essential oils as air freshener can also help to prevent the spreading of infectious organisms.

In the absence of a diffuser, you can still freshen up your environment by adding a few drops of essential oil to a bowl of hot water or to the melting wax of a burning candle.

You can add a few drops of essential oil to your laundry or dryer to freshen up clothing, towels and linen.

These are the two most common applications of essential oils. Some practitioners believe that some types can be ingested in safe doses. However, this method is still highly debated upon as most practitioners in the US, UK and Canada, are not in favor of this particular type of application.

There are a lot of things to consider when buying essential oils and aromatherapy products. The market is loaded with doubtful items that might harm you.

Different aromatherapy products vary on purity depending on the production method used by their manufacturers. You need to be equipped with important information regarding these products before you decide to purchase them.

It can help to ensure that you are getting the authentic essential oils that carry your desired or expected therapeutic action.

1. Identify your need.

Before you buy any aromatherapy product, you need to identify what you really need. You should determine your purpose for buying it. Are you going to use it to heal a particular ailment or you just intend to use it as a candle diffuser at home?

It is best to seek the advice of an aromatherapy practitioner before buying essential oils. This can help to ensure that that you know what to buy based on your need.

2. Identify sources.

Aromatherapy products are available in health shops, herb stores, drug stores, cosmetic shops and supermarkets. They are even sold online nowadays.

If you intend to use your essential oil for therapeutic purposes, don't buy them from supermarkets and cosmetic shops. These stores sell impure oils which are diluted with other chemical ingredients.

You should buy therapeutic essential oils from herb stores and health food stores. They are known as reliable outlets of pure aromatherapy products.

3. Identify their containers.

Essential oils are sensitive to light and they can become contaminated when contained in plastic.

Pure essential oils are sold in dark-colored glass bottles to preserve their purity and potency. Avoid buying essential oils in plastic bottles or other containers with rubber dropper tops as they may be contaminated.

4. Check the label.

By checking the label, you can be confident that you are buying the right aromatherapy product that you want.

When you buy essential oils, always check for the label that says "100% Essential Oil" or "Pure Essential Oil."

Never go for bottles that carry markings like "Perfume Oil," "Fragrance Oil," "Botanical Essence," or "Natural Oil." These products could be mixed with synthetic chemicals which can lessen their therapeutic effects.

Another way of determining the purity of essential oils is to find the botanical name of the oil together with its common name in the label. Most of these oils are also packed with brochures that contain information about their country of origin, instructions for use and method of extraction.

5. Check the price.

The countries of origin, methods and costs of production, and availability and supply are just a few factors that can affect the individual costs of different essential oils. These should make the price of a particular essential oil different from the others.

But if you can see different essential oils with uniform price, you should be doubtful as it is a sign that those oils are fake or synthetic imitations.

Flax is a plant that is cultivated for its seed which is the source of flaxseed oil – a rich source of compounds that is used for its medicinal value.

Flaxseed oil is loaded with essential fatty acids. These are essential compounds that help to make your systems function normally. But since the body doesn't have the ability to produce them on its own, you need to get it from natural food sources, such as the flaxseed oil.

Essential fatty acids work to protect your cell membranes from damage and to optimize their main function of admitting useful substances and rejecting harmful ones.

EFAs also contain omega 3 fatty acids which help to provide nourishment to your brain and health to your heart.

Here are some of the health benefits of flaxseed oil.

1. It helps to prevent heart diseases.

Flaxseed oil is rich in essential fatty acids which can help to prevent and treat heart diseases. It also helps to lower bad cholesterol levels which are one of the main causes of high blood pressure, strokes and heart attacks.

2. It helps to prevent inflammation.

Omega-3 fatty acids help to prevent inflammation which is caused by gout, lupus and fibrocystic breasts. It can alleviate joint pains and inflammation of the skin, joints and kidneys. Aside from these benefits, omega-3 also helps to facilitate absorption of iodine, especially on women who are suffering from fibrocystic breasts.

3. It helps to prevent constipation, hemorrhoids, diverticular disorders and gallstones.

Flaxseeds are rich in dietary fiber, an essential substance that your body needs in optimizing the functions of your digestive tract. This can lead to the prevention of constipation, hemorrhoids and diverticular diseases. It can also help to repair damage on the intestinal tract and prevent the formation of gallstones and dissolve existing ones.

4. It helps to keep your skin healthy and protected from acne, eczema, psoriasis and sunburn.

Flaxseed essential oil contains skin-healing properties which help to protect your skin from eczema, psoriasis and rosacea. Thanks to the essential fatty acids which can do a lot of wonders for your overall health.

5. It helps to promote healthy hair and nails.

The abundance of EFAs in flaxseed oil which includes omega-3 can help to give you lustrous hair and healthy nails.

6. It helps to prevent nerve damage that can lead to numbness and tingling. It may also help to treat Parkinson's disease.

7. It may help to reduce the risk of breast cancer, colon cancer, and prostate cancer.

This still needs further studies. But according to research conducted by the University of Toronto, the lignans in flaxseed oil may help to benefit people who are suffering these types of cancer.

Flaxseed oil also helps to treat menopausal symptoms, menstrual cramps, female infertility, male infertility, and impotence.

As its name implies, carrot seed essential oil is an extract of the dried seeds of the carrot plant and from the dried plant itself.

This essential oil is extracted through the process of steam distillation. It is widely used in Europe and other parts of the world for its antioxidant, disinfectant and detoxifying properties.

Here are some of the health benefits of carrot seed essential oil:

1. It is a potent antioxidant which helps to combat the health risks brought by free radicals as a result of your body's metabolic processes.

It also helps to slow down the aging process by providing nourishment to your collagen and preventing the development of wrinkles in your skin.

2. It helps to prevent the loss of synovial fluids in your body which can cause arthritis and immovability of your joints.

3. It helps to prevent cancer by protecting your cells from damage brought by free radicals.

4. It helps to remove the toxins from your blood, organs and body tissues.

5. Carrot Seed Oil has antiseptic and disinfectant properties that can help to wounds and cuts from infections. You can also take it internally to cure infections of the throat, mouth, stomach, colon, intestines and the urinary tract. It can also help to cure sores, gangrene, psoriasis and ulcers.

6. It has antiviral properties which help to relieve symptoms of viral infections like flu, and common colds.

7. It helps to kill intestinal worms and prevent constipation and stomach infections.

8. It contains carminative properties which help to prevent hyperacidity and gas pains.

9. It helps to remove toxins in the body by stimulating urination.

10. It helps to stimulate circulation and metabolism.

11. It has regenerative properties which help to stimulate the growth of new cells and body tissues.

12. It has a relaxing effect which helps to relieve stress and anxiety.

13. It is rich in vitamin A which is beneficial to the health of your eyes and vision.

14. It helps to relieve menstrual pain in women and promote regularity of their menstruation.

These are some of the health benefits of carrot seed essential oil. It has no known threat, but pregnant women should use it with extra caution to avoid complications.

Morning sickness refers to the extreme discomfort that pregnant women usually experience in the morning especially during the second trimester of their pregnancy. Its indications include nausea, vomiting and aversion to certain foods.

There are various ways to reduce the symptoms of morning sickness. These include exercise, medication, and aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is one of the oldest methods of treating morning sickness. It involves the use of extracts and essential oils from aromatic plants to alleviate various illnesses. It is natural, effective, and low on side effects.

The most common essential oils that people use to treat morning sickness are:

1. Peppermint essential oil
2. Lemon essential oil
3. Ginger essential oil
4. Spearmint essential oil

Just like other forms of treatment, aromatherapy involves certain procedures that you need to follow to effectively treat your specific ailment.

Here are some of the most common and effective ways to treat morning sickness with aromatherapy:

1. Inhalation

You can inhale the aroma of your essential oil by putting a few drops of it on your handkerchief and smell it. If you have an aromatherapy diffusor, you can also use it for this purpose.

2. Body Application

If you intend to apply essential oil directly on your body, you should dilute it first with a carrier oil like coconut oil or jojoba oil to prevent it from harming your skin. This will help to alleviate your discomfort.

Essential oils are highly concentrated extracts. You should avoid applying them directly on your skin in its undiluted form as it might cause irritation.

Apply the diluted essential oil directly on your navel or behind your ears once every three or four hours.

3. Tongue Application

Put a drop of essential oil on your tongue to alleviate the symptoms of your morning sickness.

As a word of advice, you need to complement aromatherapy with proper diet, regular exercise and sufficient sleep. These can help to give you a faster relief from morning sickness.

Do not forget to seek professional advice before you apply aromatherapy for your morning sickness.
