Our bodies are just like the environment that we are living in; they also contain toxins.  Toxins surround us.  You can see them on the ground and in the atmosphere.  They are sometimes present in the air we breathe. 

As individuals, it would be difficult for us to control the existence of toxins in our environment, but we can do many things to eliminate or reduce their presence in our bodies.   But we need to know them first so that we can take appropriate steps to avoid them and remove them from our system.  Here are some of the toxins that are present in our body:

1. Refined Sugar

Refined sugar is what most people call white death or sweet poison.  It is very harmful to our health.  It is the cause of obesity, diabetes and other serious health problems.  You need to regulate your sugar intake to reduce the risks of many diseases including diabetes.

2. Mercury

Mercury is present mostly in the sea foods that you eat such as tuna and shellfish.  A high concentration of mercury in the brain can cause Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, heart failure and some cancers.

3. Free Radicals

Free radicals are toxic by products of oxidation that happen during the metabolic process.  It causes damage to your cells and accelerates aging.  You can reduce the risk of free radicals by taking fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants.

4. Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant which can give you a temporary boost of energy and mental alertness, but taking them excessively can be harmful as it can cause abnormal palpitation, nervousness, energy crash and mood swings among others.

5. Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a silent killer.  It clogs your arterial walls which can result in heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases.  You can avoid cholesterol by getting rid of fatty foods, eating healthy and exercising regularly.

6. Cortisol

Cortisol is a substance that your body secretes when you are under stress.  High cortisol levels can affect your mood which can lead to depression.  You can defeat cortisol by laughter, thinking happy thoughts, staying away from stressful situations and engaging in relaxing hobbies like gardening and exercising, and living a healthy lifestyle.

7. Pesticides

You can find them in fruits and vegetables that are supposed to give you the nourishment that you need.  You should wash them thoroughly before eating them.  Pesticides are dangerous chemicals which can cause a lot of major diseases including cancer, if they are taken regularly over the long term.

8. Dioxins

Dioxins are a class of chemical contaminants that are formed during heating or burning processes.  They can cause cancer and some behavioral problems.  You can avoid dioxins by eating organic foods and getting rid of saturated fats.
